About

About this site

niddklabs.org is an independent informational resource about bariatric (weight-loss) surgery. It also serves as an archive of materials from the LABS study participant website.

What you will find here

General information about bariatric surgery, an interactive BMI calculator, and a restored collection of pages from the participant website of the Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery (LABS) — a large NIDDK-funded study that followed 2,458 bariatric surgery patients for up to seven years.

Where the archived material comes from

Between roughly 2012 and 2016, the LABS study ran a participant website at participants.niddklabs.org with study news, results summaries, newsletters, and educational resources. That site is no longer online. The pages in our LABS study archive were recovered from the Internet Archive (web.archive.org) and are preserved here as historical documents.

Independence

This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), or the LABS research group. Archived materials remain the work of their original authors and are reproduced for reference and historical preservation.

Medical disclaimer

Nothing on this site is medical advice. Decisions about bariatric surgery should be made with a qualified surgical and medical team.
